Will Medicare pay for my stairlift?
Not in most cases; a stairlift is often not considered Durable Medical Equipment (DME) and Medicare will not cover the costs. However, there are other options for reducing the out of pocket cost for a stairlift, including some Medicaid or Veterans Assistance benefits. If your doctor prescribes the stairlift, there may also be the chance for Medicare assistance. Click here to see if you can afford a stairlift.
Are stairlifts just for seniors living at home?
No! Stairlifts can provide safety for a variety of people in their homes. People feeling weak from chronic conditions or cancer treatments can feel too weak to navigate the stairs, or people who use wheelchairs for mobility can benefit from having a stairlift at home.
Can you make a stairlift to help me get from my garage to the main floor of my home?
Stairlifts come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and uses. You can customize your stairlift for indoor or outdoor use, as well as to help with many stairs or just a few.
My staircase is curved. Does that mean I cannot get a stairlift?
While straight staircases often offer a less expensive stairlift, your curved staircase can certainly be outfitted with a stairlift.
How much does a stairlift cost?
Stairlifts can cost anywhere from $1,500 to $4,000. Your unique estimate will depend on a variety of factors such as shape and length of staircase, as well as features for the seat. Click here to get an estimate from professionals in your area.
